The Once Upon A Paper Writers Site & Forums Ideas For Writers...
I've called this page 'Words For Writers' based on a writing excercise I used to do. What this involved was filling a jar full of small bits of paper, each with a word printed on it. I would then shake the jar, pick out ten at random, and write a piece based on those ten words. Below are the first set of words and some other ideas to help writers write. We will add to this as more ideas become available.

These are images I've collected over a period of time. Unfortunately, I didn't keep track of the artists and most are unsigned. Some are from the prints of old paintings, some are photographs, and some are new digital art. By displaying them here, I in no way shape or form claim that I had anything to do with creating any of them.

Association Ideas...

Pick one and write about it!
  • Write about a childhood place that you can still return to as an adult. If there is no such place, try to remember one vividly, as if you were standing there this instant.

  • Write about the most intense nightmare you've ever had. It can be a description of the nightmare itself, or a piece based on it.

  • Write about what you can see outside the closest window to you. You may want to grab a notebook to jot down impressions as you look out the window.

  • Write about a time you remember being the most happy.

  • Write about a time you remember being the most sad.

  • Write about a time you remember being the most afraid.

  • Write about a time you remember being the most angry.

  • Write about the first time you were in love. This can be from when you were four years old or from last week. If you've haven't been in love yet, imagine what it would be like and write about that.

  • Write about the first time you truly hated someone. If you never have, then try to imagine it vividly enough to write about it.
